Is there any planet besides Tatooine that is possible to find bounty hunters, assassins, thiefs and smugglers? This kind of scum. I thought about Nal Hutta and Hondo’s planet, but they are not what I am looking for. Thanks for the help!

You may find what you’re looking for in the page for shadowports, planets like Tatooine that are known to be relatively safe for smugglers and criminals to land. One other planet that could be good that isn’t on that list is Kerev Doi. I hope one of those works for you!

Do you know of any specific species/planets that would’ve had a high number of refugees in the aftermath of the galactic civil war? I wanna have a character of mine adopt an orphaned kiddo, but I can’t decide on where they should be from.

Any planet that was particularly involved in the fighting would be a reasonable choice; many of them suffered some sort of attack that could force people offworld. Jedha, for example, could work. Caamas would be a good one, as many Caamasi were displaced by a planetary bombardment in 19 BBY, and Corulag (in canon) was in a similar situation. Refugees were known to flee Kashyyk during the Civil War, as well as Wobani (though some of them went to live on Alderaan and were likely killed before the end of the war), and Denon and Ryloth would also be likely candidates.

I hope that helps! If anyone can think of others feel free to add on!

Do the prefix “Ord” and the suffix “-ooine” for planet names have any actual meaning?

Many planets have the prefix Ord because it stands for Ordinance/Regional Depot. Planet names beginning with Ord, such as Ord Mantell, refer to a planet used as a military outpost. Common suffixes such as -tooine and -ooine have no canonical explanation, but it seems to be a pattern that many of these planets were colonized during the Great Manifest Period (20,000-17,018 BBY). It’s possible that this explains the similarities.

How long did it take to rebuild Taris after it was bombarded by Darth Malak? Is it an ecumenopolis again by the time of the Battle of Yavin?

It was rebuilt slowly over the next few millennia, though there were many ruins left behind. Reconstruction was not started until 3,641 BBY, and it is unknown exactly how long it took. By the Clone Wars, it was again considered a city-planet, but it never reached the same level of prosperity it had before the bombardment.

Star Wars Atlas (2009) – Galactic Regions
Interesting notes:  Location of many notable planets, the layers of galatic regions

This is a selection of maps showing the sectors of Star Wars’ galaxy, radiating outward from the center.  While no longer strictly canon (as of April 25, 2014) it still gives a good idea of what planets are where.  It can be especially helpful if you want to find a planet that’s nowhere near Coruscant to strand your characters on or if you want to find a more densely populated world near the center of everything!  Or if you just want to know how close a specific planet is to the center of the galaxy.

Deep Core:

Byss

(Note:  The Deep Core did not hold as many notable worlds as the Core Worlds/Galactic Core/the Core, it had a massive black hole at the center which made hyperspace travel difficult and it was extremely densely packed with stars that had tremendous gravitational pull.)

The Core:

Alderaan / Anaxes / Brentaal / Corellia / Coruscant / Duro / Kuat / Nubia / N’zoth

The Colonies:

Fondor / Neimoidia

Inner Rim:

Bestine / Hapes / Onderon / Taanab / Thyferra

Expansion Region:

Mimban

Mid Rim:

AnsionBothawui /

Boz Pity / Ithor / Kashyyyk / Malastare / Naboo / Nar Shadda / Ord Mantell / Ruusan

Hutt Space:

Nal Hutta / Nar Shadda / Toydaria

Outer Rim:

Anoat / Bespin / Bonadan / Christophsis / Dagobah / Dantooine / Dathomir / Endor (Forest Moon) / Eriadu / Felucia / Gamorr / Geonosis / Honoghr / Hoth / Kamino / Kessel / Korriban / Mandalore / Mon Cala / Mustafar / Mygeeto / Nal Hutta / Ossus / Raxus Prime / Rhen Var / Rishi / Rodia / Ryloth / Saleucami / Sernpidal / Shadda-Bi-Boran / Sullust / Tatooine / Toydaria / Triton / Tund / Utapau / Yavin

Wild Space:

Bakura / Kalee / Teth

Unknown Regions:

Is there a directory of planets where kyber crystals were found? Also are there limited colors?

This depends heavily on whether you’re going with canon or Legends or a mixture of the two, so I’ll do them separately.

In canon, we only see kyber crystals used as lightsaber crystals (while in Legends there are many different crystals that can be used). Notably, they could be found on Ilum, Mygeeto, Jedha, Lothal, and Christophsis. The known colours are black, blue, green, purple, red, white, and yellow, often in subtly varying shades.

In Legends, it can be very difficult to determine whether a planet has kyber crystals or another variety of lightsaber crystal, but I expect it wouldn’t make much of a difference. These are the known types of crystals, and these are the known colours. I don’t know of a compiled list of planets (maybe someone else does?) but clicking on any type you’re interested in will show you where it can be found.

Hope that helps!

In the rogue one novelization the author made it clear that Yavin 4 smelled like rotting vegetation (mentioning it several times). Why has this never been an issue before this author’s commentary? No one seemed to mind in any movie instance of visiting Yavin 4 and people build their homes there? Just wondering, it’s a silly question but it stood out like a sore thumb in the novel.

I honestly have no clue. I can’t recall it being mentioned before, though I suppose many of the people who did go to live there have already spent a good deal of time on the planet and may have gotten used to it? Maybe it’s just a quirk of the new canon? Who knows!

Congrats on being done with exams! I’ve got myself stuck, I need a planet that has an abandoned Rebel base. My story takes place about 10 years before TFA/TLJ, so Crait doesn’t work (Poe hadn’t been there before the events of the movie and he’s kinda one of my main characters). Thank you!!

Thank you! Not quite done yet I’m afraid, I still have three to go :/ But the worst has passed!

You’ve got a good number of options here, so I’ll recommend a few and you can pick. Some have more info available than others, so depending on how much liberty you need to take some may work better. (I’ll link the planets, and you can find the associated base on their pages.)

Thila, Karatha, Xyquine II, Baskarn, Asterios, Reamma, Cassidode VI, Tomark II, Chrellis, Defiant Core base (planet unknown), Aracara, Tierfon, Arbra, and of course, if you think it could work, the Great Temple on Yavin 4

Hope one of those works for you!

Is there a map or anything that would detail which planets were a part of the new republic ?

There is a map in the visual dictionary for the Last Jedi, which I believe includes all or most of the significant NR planets, and which I unfortunately don’t own. Perhaps someone who does own it could confirm? I’ve mentioned it before, but this map of the galaxy is very helpful if you want to visualize where things are, and it’s been updated with all the new planets. Right here is the category intersection of New Republic planets and canon articles on Wookieepedia, so you could also look through that list if you like.

Hope that helps!
