Hey guys. I thought I should let you know that I probably will not be able to answer asks all that frequently over the next few days. A family member is in the hospital and I’ve been rather busy between visiting and taking care of my sister. By all means, keep sending in your questions! I just may not get to them as quickly.
I’m sorry, I don’t know. I don’t think the information is canonically available. I do know that Padmé and Bail were both part of another group called the Senate Security Committee, but I don’t think it had the same powers as the Security Council. According to Wookieepedia, the only mention of the Security Council is in the book Republic Commando: True Colors, so if anyone has read it and can confirm or deny whether any members of the council are mentioned then please feel free to. If you’ve already read it, then I’m afraid I know no more than you here.
Now, if you want, I can get you the names of some other Senators and you can make up your own list? Many of them are on multiple committees and councils, so plenty of known Senators could well be on this one as well. It’s your choice.
Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!
~ Jacen
Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I haven’t read the book. I came to the same conclusion that the Security Council was different to the one that Padme and Bail sat on. If anyone out there does know the answer – let me know. But in the meantime a list of some Senators who could be on it would be great! @writebetterstarwars
Okay, sorry this took so long! The obvious ones would be Bail and Padme, because they’re on the Security Committee already, as well as Mon Mothma. I would also suggest: Mas Amedda, the Vice Chair of the Senate and a close associate of Palpatine; Garm Bel Iblis, a Corellian Senator who strongly opposed Palpatine’s growing powers near the end of the Clone Wars; Fang Zar, a Senator on the Loyalist Committee; Nee Alavar, also a Loyalist who was executed after Order 66; Bana Breemu; Des’sein; Largetto; Chi Eekway Papanoida; Malé-Dee; Terr Taneel; and, if you want, Jar Jar.
I’m naming a lot of Senators from the Loyalist Committee or the Delegation of 2000. First, this gives you a better chance at finding a biography or other information on them. Second, you can kill them off if you want, because a lot of the Delegation of 2000 was murdered by the Imperials. And third, the Security Council had the power to enact Order 65, which, if the majority of the Senate or the Security Council voted that the Chancellor was unfit for duty, could have Palpatine removed from office, captured, or killed. It would make sense that Senators opposing his rise to power would put themselves in a position to protect the Republic from him if necessary.
I would also direct you to the Wookieepedia category for Republic Senators (be careful – some are from long before Order 66, some died before it happened, and some are technically Separatists), and the article for the Delegation of 2000, which has a list of many Senators who were involved in it.
If anyone’s writing a Star Wars fic and wants to know the other species in the galaxy to populate the background of your fic, THIS is a good visual guide to use. It’s one long, alphabetized list with a picture of each species and where they’re seen in the movies or other EU material.
It does NOT include any other details or history about the species, so for more in-depth information, Wookiepedia is still your best bet. I use that as well, but since I only wanted a quick glance at what the many sentients look like and where they’re from, this list was more helpful than opening 12 new tabs.
@vadianna this seems like something you should know about.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This is HOLY COW incredibly useful. The information is slightly out-of-date, and doesn’t seem to include the stuff from Rebels or TCW (has no Lasat, and no Togruta), but it’s a great reference regardless.
Tagging @writebetterstarwars, and I suppose @pep-no as well; trying to think of people who would want to see this, that don’t follow me.
Reblogging for anyone who needs this!
Info on the Sith is wrong, as is the Noghri. The Noghri appear in many of the books, up to the NJO and possibly beyond. One of the Vong kills one of Leia’s bodyguards early in the series, IIRC. And the Sith weren’t “long vanished” by 4000 BBY. They’re still around ~3600 BBY, per SWTOR and the related books.
Yes, I noticed the bit about the Noghri too. I would guess this list was published before SWTOR came out, as it also doesn’t include any mentions of TCW

For those who don’t know, I’ve been working on a list of star wars vocabulary to be used as reference. It’s finally ready to go, and you can find it here.
It’s also linked in my navigation tab, and in my bio (for those on mobile). Use it whenever you want, and don’t be afraid to suggest that something be added. Thanks to everyone who has already either suggested stuff or sent in asks about terminology! I hope you all find this useful.
tips for writing Star Wars fanfic/Star Wars roleplay things
it’s not concrete; it’s duracrete
viewports are the windows on ships
not a plane; ship or speeder
it’s not steel; it’s durasteel
booksare rare; holorecordsordatapads
it’s not a glass pane it’s transparisteel
caf is the equivalent of coffee
it’s not paper it’s a flimsi
medcenter is a hospital
Star Wars can be very similar to things we’re already used to, but getting familiar with some of these terms can make your writing really fit in with the universe
This is brilliant! Here’s another:
It’s not a movie; it’s a holovid
It’s not a phone or cell; it’s a holocom or communicator or just comm (unit). You normally comm someone instead of call them.
Searching our standard terms in Wookieepedia will normally provide you with one or several in-universe alternatives. The other items exist, they’re just either archaic terms or really low-tech versions of what’s commonly used (like concrete is a real thing, but just extremely less durable and strong than the more advanced and common duracrete).
I’ve seen ‘permacrete’ used in the latest books as well.
Back in the day weren’t the “glass” windows on x-wings and ships called like invisa-steel or something? That stuck in my head from the Thrawn trilogy I think. I remember sitting there in deep contemplation over how the hell you make the molecule chains in metal transparent and worrying about carbon chains and shit because what’s what you do in 10th grade.
I remember seeing med center used as medbay and sickbay as well, and dishwasher as sonic dishwasher? (correct me if wrong tho, I can’t remember v well). But here’s some more:
bandaids = bacta patches bathroom = refresher watch/clock = chrono first aid kit = medpack, medkit motorcycle = speeder bike, swoop bike camera = holocamera internet = holonet shower = sonic shower(?)
Correct any of these if they’re wrong ;P also they’re all legends I think and I’m not sure if any of them are in new canon.
I love this, because it’s not condescending or pretentious…just fans letting newer fans know ways to improve their fic. I love the films, but I haven’t been able to get access to so many of the books and comics yet (even though they’re waiting in my Amazon cart for pay day), so this is awesome. And I’ve basically been living on Wookieepedia lately, too!
I can’t find a canon instance of it but
refrigerator = conservator
I just know I’ll be needing some of those in the future.
Sorry to say, there is no such device. Anything sending transmissions that far needs a bigger power source than, say, a comlink. However, you could do a couple things. One, get a regular old comlink message to someone who has access to a subspace or hyperwave transceiver, someone within about 50 klicks of your character. Two, have the character themselves get to a more powerful transmitter, like you would find on a ship or maybe a private building.
It’s also important to note that the Empire shut down large portions of the HoloNet (the network used to carry hyperwave transmissions), causing the Rebellion a lot of trouble when it came to communicating with each other. It also didn’t cover a lot of the Outer Rim, but there were secret channels used by the rebels. Subspace transmissions were not routed through the HoloNet, but they did take significantly longer to reach their destination, and they were easier to intercept. Think about which would work better for your story.
I hope that helps!

In the same vein, if you have someone using a comlink while on a Star Destroyer, could it somehow piggyback on the Destroyer’s transmitter to get enough power to reach someone on a different planet?
I suppose it could be possible, if they managed to get a feed between the comlink and the Destroyer’s subspace transmitter. They would likely need a direct, physical connection, or at least some sort of tampering with the transmitter itself.
Word Counter – Not only does it count the number of words you’ve written, it tells you which words are used most often and how many times they appear.
Tip Of My Tongue– Have you ever had a word on the tip of your tongue, but you just can’t figure out what it is? This site searches words by letters, length, definition, and more to alleviate that.
Readability Score – This calculates a multitude of text statistics, including character, syllable, word, and sentence count, characters and syllables per word, words per sentence, and average grade level.
Writer’s Block (Desktop Application) – This free application for your computer will block out everything on your computer until you meet a certain word count or spend a certain amount of time writing.
(as of April 25, 2014), this RPG supplement guide can be useful for helping to provide more background for this area of space. Currently, the only planets we know of that are canon for this region are Rakata Prime and Ilum, but it’s also where the ice planet used for Starkiller Base was from.
→ Potentially useful for: If you want some neighboring planets for the First Order to interact with, these might be of use!
