STAR WARS WRITING RESOURCES

PLEASE REBLOG AND ADD ANY OTHERS YOU MIGHT KNOW OF ❤ ❤

WOOKIEEPEDIA. The source of anything and everything you want to know related to Star Wars. Good for fact-checking, character history, or simply killing time. There is also, of course, the official Star Wars Databank!

STAR WARS GALAXY MAP. A fantastic project that maps the Star Wars galaxy as we know it. Consider donating ( if you can! ) to help keep the site up and running! Also check out W.R. van Hage’s map and the Star Wars Atlas Online Companion.

TIMELINE. While hosted on Wookieepedia, this is nevertheless deserving of its own bullet point. This page provides an approximate timeline with dates of all canon material. You can also filter items, so that it displays only TV episodes, for example, or only books, or only movies! Find the Legends timeline here.

STAR WARS SLANG AND PHRASES. A collection I’ve been keeping of phases, slang, idioms, insults, and more from the Star Wars universe. This also contains a glossary of frequently used terms, such as “refresher” in place of “restroom”. Please feel free to use/share!

STAR WARS NAME GENERATOR. This is a fun one AND a life saver. You can generate up to 100 Star Wars-sounding names ( first and last! ) with a click.

So ah, weird
question.

I seem to remember
a creature called a skull panther as being part of the star wars
universe and I swear I’ve used it before.

However I can’t
seem to find any information on it and now I’m starting to wonder
if I either made it up or borrowed information about it from another
series.

Anyone help a
writer out?

@writebetterstarwars, any ideas?

I don’t know of any animal called a skull panther in Star Wars. All that comes to mind is the sludge panther and the sand panther, could one of those be what you’re thinking of?

Star Wars Atlas (2009) – Galactic Regions
Interesting notes:  Location of many notable planets, the layers of galatic regions

This is a selection of maps showing the sectors of Star Wars’ galaxy, radiating outward from the center.  While no longer strictly canon (as of April 25, 2014) it still gives a good idea of what planets are where.  It can be especially helpful if you want to find a planet that’s nowhere near Coruscant to strand your characters on or if you want to find a more densely populated world near the center of everything!  Or if you just want to know how close a specific planet is to the center of the galaxy.

Deep Core:

Byss

(Note:  The Deep Core did not hold as many notable worlds as the Core Worlds/Galactic Core/the Core, it had a massive black hole at the center which made hyperspace travel difficult and it was extremely densely packed with stars that had tremendous gravitational pull.)

The Core:

Alderaan / Anaxes / Brentaal / Corellia / Coruscant / Duro / Kuat / Nubia / N’zoth

The Colonies:

Fondor / Neimoidia

Inner Rim:

Mid Rim:

Is there any specific way for a non-Force user to fight someone with the Force? (Without use of a ysalamiri.) Would it be possible to sort of “disarm” a Force-user with use of pressure points of something similar? Thank you!

I’m afraid I can’t remember any instance of something like this, and I can’t find a mention of it in my reference books (note that I’m not big into the really far back stuff, so if there’s something there I may have missed it). There are plenty of ways to prevent a Force-user from using or even accessing the Force, but they all require some degree of skill in the Force to perform. Generally, when we see a non-Force-user fight a Force-user, they rely on gadgets and traps to get the upper hand, and they are often still beaten.

If anyone knows of an example of this sort of thing that I’ve missed, please feel free to add!

Might I direct you all to one of my favorite Quora posts ever:

How could a Mandalorian kill a Jedi straight-up, no questions asked?

And my other most fave Quora post:

In Star Wars, what weapons and strategies could a non-force user employ to effectively kill Jedi in a one on one fight? Are there any non-force users in Star Wars universe who have defeated many Jedi, and are considered dangerous by them?

Reblogging for this wonderful addition

The trilogy is complete!!! Just in time for Christmas and the release of The Last Jedi, here’s “What Species To Choose for your Star Wars OC”, Volume 3! Have you ever wanted to make a character in the Star Wars universe, but you can’t decide which of the fifty billion alien races to use for them? Well, here’s this handy flowchart to help make that decision just a little easier!

For this version, I decided I wanted to suffer as I made it, so I went ahead and bumped up the species count from 150 to 250, which is somehow still only scratching the surface of the species out there. Even so, I’m happy to say I’ve at least covered most of the major species, while still sprinkling in some more obscure ones—everything from Twi’leks and Zabraks to Hysalrians and Drabatans, this flowchart has it all!

Beyond that (as well as some minor formatting changes), everything’s just as it was before! You can pick out your species either by following the flowchart or by picking randomly with a six-sided die or a random number generator—figured the latter would be cool for all the RPG players out there! Once you find one you like, feel free to check out the links below for lists of resources and info on each species (alphabetized, of course, for your convenience). These resources can include their Wookieepedia page, videos of the species in-action, informational videos, and even name generators! Do be warned, though, that the amount of info on the species vary, as some are just older and more well known/established than others. I hope what I found helps anyway, though!

But yeah, in any case, I really hope this helps some people out! In fact, if you do end up using this, please consider tagging whatever you make with #starwarsocflowchart—you don’t have to, of course, but I’d just love to see what people come up with!

With that said, merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone reading this, and thank you all for supporting my work on here enough to inspire me to do this! Y’all are the best, and I can’t wait to see all that you make with this!
