How to find things on Wookieepedia, Part 1 – Browsing

This post is aimed at fic writers but it’s probably of use to anyone who has ever tried to look something up there. It might also be helpful for other Wikis but I don’t frequent those the way I do Wookieepedia, so I can’t verify. These are things that felt like it took me far too long to figure out. I welcome feedback to make it better.

Part 1 is about finding things on Wookieepedia when you aren’t sure what it’s called, aka browsing and using Categories. (this post)

Part 2 discusses narrowing down the results of your browsing (Category intersections).

Part 3 discusses how to track down that thingamajig you saw on that one episode (the Appearances section).

First some general terms.

Articles – These are the pages you are looking for. They’ve got pages on Aunt Beru and on Kathleen Kennedy, T-7 ion disruptors and “Destroy Malevolence”(the 4th episode of TCW). Basically everything.

Stubs – These are pages that are placeholders and haven’t been completely filled out. Still handy depending on how much is lacking, even if it’s only to let you know there’s not much.

Pages – Appear to be the same thing as an article or stub and I’m not honestly sure why they sometimes use this term and not articles.  It should be noted that it is defined in part by what it is not which is a Category (see below).

Categories – A category is a way of grouping articles together. They can have subcategories creating a hierarchy. Every subcategory is technically a category as well. Categories are cool because when you aren’t sure what you are looking for they allow you to browse and hone in on your search. For example, Starships is a category whose subcategories include Starships by Affiliation and Starships by Type.  In addition,  Starships are a subcategory of Spacecraft which is a subcategory of Vehicles. Get the idea?

(There’s also Files – this is most often an image and accessed from an article. I won’t be discussing it much here)

Hey guys!

I was curious to see if anyone had any feedback to give on the random planet generator. Any glitches or issues with the site?

As well, at some point in the near future I’m going to attempt changing the format of the mobile site. I also have a “miscellaneous” category in the works that would give out a random fact about the planet—any suggestions?

Moonlitalien has always been nice to me and others, what proof do you have they are bigots? I’ve never seen any anti-trans posts on thier blog.

I am absolutely not getting involved in a debate over whether or not any user holds bigoted beliefs. I took a quick look through their blog and found one use of the t-slur and the word “bihets”, among other sentiments which I do not agree with and won’t support. I would encourage you guys to go find out for yourselves whether or not you agree with the content they post. Unless someone has vital information, this is the last ask I’ll be answering about the topic. If you really feel the need to keep discussing, you’re welcome to message me.

Do you know if it’s just a coincidence that the shape of Huyang’s face plate kinda resembles the bone spurs on a Sith pureblood? Cuz I just noticed that myself, and I wanna know if anyone else has

I don’t believe there is a canonical answer to this question, but his design does look quite a bit like a Sith. I would guess that was intentional, especially given his age, but to me it seems more like a nod to Legends than something with in-universe meaning. What do you guys think?

Can you dream up/ think of any scientific or technological development that you wish was in the SW universe? Could be live action or animated, doesn’t matter. Sometimes I wish they had better adapted medical tech cause space is terrifying and I worry 😂

I always find myself wishing that the HoloNet worked more like the modern-day internet. It does bother me that it seems to be either uncommon or difficult to do stuff akin to visiting a website or looking something up on Google. It would be a difficult part of canon to change now, since it started before the internet really worked that way, but it feels weird to have to work around it!

What do you think of news of the new Star Wars: Resistance title being copyrighted?

I actually hadn’t heard of this until now! For those who don’t know, Lucasfilm has filed a number of trademarks on the title Star Wars: Resistance, including ones for a lot of merchandise, and people are speculating that this might be a new animated TV series set in the sequel era. Now that Rebels is coming to a close, I would certainly look forward to a new series, especially one with such potential to explore a whole new area of worldbuilding of which we haven’t seen too much yet. And since there are also the rumours that they’re currently looking for people who worked on Rebels and Clone Wars to do something new, I trust that if it ends up being a TV show it will be done well.
