Are there any stinging plants in the SW universe? And which one is the most similar to our stinging nettle? I know that poisons do exist, but what about this kind of plants? Thank you so much for the patience and dedication you put into this blog. (Also, sorry if a similar question has already been asked.)

The pleasure’s all mine, anon! Don’t worry, no question like this has been asked before.

There is a plant called a Mire nettle that is definitely the most similar, but it only grows on the planet Nyriaan and it’s processed to make a powerful narcotic, so this may not be what you’re looking for. If you’re hoping to keep with the relative harmlessness of a stinging nettle, your best bet might be a species of cactus or thorny bush, of which there are several that could work. (Feel free to shoot me another ask if you think something like that could work for your purposes).

There are also some plants that aren’t as harmless as a nettle but are still somewhat similar. A flowering, semi-sentient plant called an urchin has spines that it hurls at anyone trying to touch or pick it. The Whinndorian gorsk-plant grows flowers that sting, but these stings are paralysing. You probably have no use for this, but there’s also a plant called a stingwort which has a venom that causes anaphalaxis in humanoids.

I hope that’s at least a little useful! Let me know if I can help more.

EDIT: Make sure to check out the comments for another plant that may work, but note that it most likely only grows on Ithor!

Was it ever explained why some people like Cad Bane and Greedo have that sorta echo-y, mechanical-sounding voice while others of their species don’t?

Cad Bane has breathing tubes that lead directly to his windpipe, which could certainly cause his voice to sound mechanical. While there’s no definite answer, that seems to be the most likely. As for Greedo, I couldn’t say. There seems to be no explanation for it, so it may have just been a production choice. Naturally, there are various other reasons for a being to have a mechanical-sounding voice, and it will be different for every character.

Do you know of any strictly herbivorous sentient species in the SW universe? Like, either biologically or as a cultural thing, I mean.

Ithorians are a herbivorous species by choice, but some sources say they also eat an insect called an ant-fly. Because these sources are an old article on StarWars.com and a non-canon book, I personally would ignore them. Ithorians are also one of the better-known species, and the only species I know of that is canonically herbivorous. (I assume they could eat meat if they wanted, but they generally don’t because of their culture).

Arcona are another species you could use if you wanted. Their diet consists of ammonia-converting roots from their homeworld, but it is not known if they also eat other things.

Grans also canonically have a plant-based diet with no information as to whether they can eat meat. They evolved from herbivorous grazing animals, so it may be that they still have a similar diet.

I could not find any list of sentient species organized by diet, so these are the only options I could find without researching every obscure species we know of. Apologies for taking so long—I instead had to look through a large number of more common species, and I didn’t have a lot of luck. I hope one of these species works for you, and if anyone else happens to know of other herbivorous species feel free to add on!

I have a character I’m working on who has a Pantoran father and a Mirialan mother, and I wanted to mix the two’s tattoo styles for the kiddo. Question is, would that be feasible? Like, what do each species’ tattoos mean, and would it make sense to combine them?

Pantorans’ tattoos symbolize lineage—individuals tattoo simple symbols to show their family affiliations. Mirialans get tattoos to show that they have completed a test or task, or have reached a certain level of mastery over a skill; these tattoos are usually geometric and repeating, and they hold meaning in subtle changes in placement on the cheeks and forehead (though it is not known what these placements mean). For both species, an individual may have no tattoos at all, but naturally this is more common in Mirialans.

I think you could feasibly combine them, either by having the character wear a combination of tattoos from both cultures or by having them somehow mix the two styles. Try searching for examples of tattoos from both species for inspiration.

I hope that helps, and good luck!

Hey! I just wanted if there are any humanoid doctors or that job is only done by droids? If so, what does a human doctor do, that a droid cant do? Thank you very much and have a nice day 💕

For sure, there are tons of human and alien doctors. Meddroids aren’t as common as actual medical practitioners, so if you’re thinking of something like a hospital or clinic you would almost certainly be dealing with living doctors. Droids are generally used more as assistants, surgeons, diagnosticians, and in cases where you wouldn’t haul around a living doctor (e.g., on small ships, remote outposts, and in dangerous places such as a war zone). They also act as consultants/specialists on alien species, as a living doctor would be unable to learn proper treatments for every species they come across.

One reason that droids have not completely replaced organics as doctors is that patients like contact with another living being. Another would be the issue of creative thinking—if a droid cannot determine the problem with its diagnostic tools, it may not have the analytical and deductive skills to think of other possibilities. As well, living beings have better mobility in places such as a battlefield or the site of a natural disaster (though workers here would be considered medics more than doctors).

There are cases where a medical team is comprised entirely of droids. For example, the Separatists used droids as medics (and torturers) for dealing with living patients. The Rebel Alliance’s medics were also largely meddroids, possibly due to a shortage of trained personnel. Relief efforts to planets or places have been known to involve droids more often than living medics. However, I would guess that you would have a hard time finding a hospital or clinic on an industrialized world that follows this pattern.

I hope that helps!

do you know what would be the official title of the husband of the queen of naboo? would he be called a king or a prince or a royal consort or something else?

I cannot find any examples of rulers of Naboo with spouses, so I couldn’t say for sure what naming system they use. In real life, from what I can tell, the queen’s husband would likely be referred to as a prince or prince consort. There are examples of him being given the title of king, but they are rarer. Personally, I would go off of real-life titles, but I am far from an expert on those and I would advise doing a bit more research into them before deciding on one.

Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Good luck!
