Did the Empire implement tactics like a modern-day terrorist would, with roadside bombs and the like? Or were they more of a find everyone and blast them kinda gang?

The Empire certainly did use tactics like that. They actually had something called the Palpatine Mine Network, a vast array of space mines, and were also known to use atmospheric and anti-personnel mines. But beyond that, they didn’t often use such small-scale/make-due techniques as a real-world terrorist, because they were the ones in charge. That was more the Rebellion’s style of fighting, especially among the smaller groups. When the Empire employed mines and the like, it was more a preemptive move. When they really meant business, they didn’t usually hesitate to bring in a Star Destroyer or two.

As a follow up to your General Ematt post, I’m so confused about resistance rankings. Do you know the order? A major becomes a general but what does an Admiral become? Is vice-Admiral higher than General? If not why did Holdo take over instead of Ematt?

There is nothing describing the specific ranking system that the Resistance uses, but I would assume it’s more or less the same as that of the Old Republic or the Rebel Alliance. So:

A General is a high-ranking leader of an army or a starfighter command, with Admiral being the equivalent rank within the navy. Both are graded C-1. This is sometimes flexible, as there are multiple different kinds of Admirals, and it’s not always clear whether they are exactly equal in every scenario. Some Generals preferred to keep their title even when appointed to a fleet command.

Vice Admirals may or may not be equal to Generals, depending on whether the grade of C-1 can be applied to all Admiral positions. If not, a Vice Admiral would be inferior to a general. It is not clear which would be used in the Resistance, but if the latter is true then I would assume Holdo took command because of her affiliation with Leia, as sort of an informal temporary arrangement.

Admiral seems to be the highest rank anyone has so far held in the Resistance, but if an Admiral were to be promoted I would assume that they would take the rank of Admiral of the Fleet or Fleet Admiral, in accordance with the ranking system of the Rebellion.

The ranking order below these is often unclear and can vary wildly from faction to faction, so there’s no telling for sure how it goes in the Resistance, especially because we only have so many characters to work from. I hope that helps at least!

So I remember Han saying that calculating the jump to lightspeed was difficult because you could end up somewhere dangerous. When Snoke’s ship jumps to lightspeed, is that ship in charge of doing the calcs for the rest of the ships that might be with them since it’s way bigger?

*minor spoilers sorta*

I expect that, since the Supremacy was the ship with the hyperspace tracker equipped, its navicomputer would perform the calculations and then transmit the them (or just the destination, and allow the others to calculate a route) to the other ships. Its size shouldn’t really make a difference, no ship would exit hyperspace close enough to a celestial body that a bigger ship following the same route could hit it. If the navicomputer and hyperdrive are both in working order, a hyperspace jump is usually relatively safe.

what do you think will be the biggest factor in rebuilding the Resistance? Is it people? supplies? support from the outside?

*TLJ spoilers ahead*

It seems to me like their most urgent needs as of TLJ will be personnel and ships, especially after the destruction of the Raddus and most of the rest of the Resistance fleet. I can only assume that this support will come from the New Republic (once they finally acknowledge the First Order as a real threat), because they don’t really have anywhere else to get capital ships, new starfighters, etc. It’s my personal prediction that the Resistance won’t exactly be rebuilt in the next movie so much as reintegrated into the New Republic as one cohesive military, which would certainly help ease the strain on resources, even though the New Republic isn’t exactly your ideal fighting force what with the demilitarization and all.

Do you think it’s better to research a planet or just make a new one up? I’m trying to find one that is human-inhabited but that might be in the midst of a civil war because of loyalty to the First Order/Empire nostalgia. Perhaps a mining community or one important in trade and supplies?

I personally prefer to pick an existing planet when possible, partially because I like to stick to canon and partially because I’m too lazy to make one up, but I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. There isn’t a whole lot of information available about the politics and astrography of the First Order, and I’m afraid I don’t know of any such planet, so you may want to just make this one up.

What material(s) is standard-issue Imperial stormtrooper armor made of? Are all armor designs used by the Imperial forces (eg TIE pilot, AT-AT commander, scout trooper and magmatrooper armor) made with the same material(s)?

It’s made of plastoid, and no, not all armour used by the Imperial Military is the same. Magma troopers, for example, wear armour reinforced with Duravlex, and death troopers’ armour is described as being much more advanced than the standard plastoid armour. Most stormtrooper variants wear armour with the same basic plastoid base.
