Hi! I tried to look in your terminology tag, but I didn’t see anything about this. Trying to figure out what a cafeteria on base would be called? Just a mess hall? Cafeteria? Tapcaf? Thank you so much for existing, btw, your tags are helpful as heck!

Thank you! You can use mess hall and cafeteria interchangeably, though from what I’ve seen a lot of people prefer mess hall. For a military base, mess hall would probably be more common.

Is there are Star Wars creature that’s able to track via Force-impression (or a common Jedi ability aside from the thing Quinlan Voss could do)? I have a character who needs to be found by the mains, but he’s unconscious at the time and doesn’t have a locator of any kind.

It seems likely to me that loth-wolves would be able to track a person through use of the Force, but of course they are rare and live only on Lothal, as far as we know. If that works for you, I’d say it’s the best option. Most animals that can use or sense the Force use it for hunting or self-defence, and those which hunt with it are generally not friendly to other Force-users. I would suggest the muttamok, a semi-sentient sort of monkey that is capable of accessing the Force. While I don’t believe they’ve ever been known to track a person down, they do have telepathic abilities and are generally pretty friendly. Give their Wookieepedia page a read if you like. I think they would probably be your best option.

Hope something works out!

Is there an alien in SW (or even a subculture of humans) that has a southern accent? I figured that if you got french Twi’leks and scottish Lurmen, there’s surely at least one :D

Some Hutts and some Corellians speak in a southern accent, as well as some Rebel pilots of various backgrounds. Personally I associate it most with Corellia because Corellians do speak with an American accent, though not everyone’s is so pronounced. Other than that, I don’t believe I know of a whole species that speaks with a southern accent the way the Twi’leks and Lurmen have theirs.

Hi there! Curious to pick your brain a little regarding dates in-universe. I can see your response regarding dates around BBY and ABY, but interested to know if there is a dating system in canon used before BY took place? Also keen to find out if the BBY/ABY system is used by the Empire and if not, what is their alternative? Thanks for being such a wonderful resource!

In-universe, the BBY/ABY system was really only used by the New Republic and the subsequent Galactic Alliance. The Battle of Yavin was chosen as Year 0 in the Galactic Calendar in 25 ABY, so it was not used officially before that time. Before this time, BTC/ATC (using the Treaty of Coruscant as Year 0) was a popular system. However, in 35 BBY was the Great ReSynchronization, which set that year as Year 0 (I’m not sure if you’ve found it already, but give this post a try if you want to know more about this dating system). The Empire did not use BBY/ABY, they used ReSynchronization time, though some preferred to use the formation of the Galactic Empire (19 BBY) as their Year 0.

Hope that helps!

Hi! Would you happen to know of a planet that has a mostly cold and icy climate (like Hoth, Orto-Plutonia, etc.), but also has at least a few urban settlements on it, too? Like, something that’s still very much an ice world, but isn’t a totally empty wasteland either?

(Ice Planet Anon again) OH, I forgot to mention, I’d preferably like to find something that’s populated at least in part by humans, since those are the stars of the story I’m working on. Thanks a bunch!

The first planet that comes to mind is Arkania, an ice planet with a number of enclosed cities. It’s not really inhabited by Humans, but Arkanians are humanoids and there are plenty of off-world visitors, due to it being a planet with massive stores of diamonds. Along the same lines is Mygeeto, though depending on the time period you’re writing in and who your characters are, this may not work.

Some worlds with more humans include Rhen Var, Ando Prime, Nar Hekka, Dolomar (whose cities are all underground), Anteevy (pretty much just an Imperial mining planet), Krownest, and Belsavis. There’s a good variety of planets there, so I hope something works for you!

Do we have any concrete or educated guesses to how many star destroyers there are in the First Order’s navy circa the events of the Last Jedi? (and confession time. It’s not for a fic. My kiddo is curious. Thanks!)

According to Wookieepedia, the First Order has at least 33 Star Destroyers (including at least one Imperial-class) and at least 30 Resurgent-class Star Desroyers, as well as at least 2 Star Dreadnoughts (one was destroyed in TLJ). It’s a bit unclear to me whether those 30 Resurgent-class Star Destroyers are meant to be counted as part of the 33 Star Destroyers, but given that the old Imperial Navy included around 25,000 Imperial-class Star Destroyers I would guess not, making a total of at least 63 Star Destroyers, plus the Dreadnoughts.

The trilogy is complete!!! Just in time for Christmas and the release of The Last Jedi, here’s “What Species To Choose for your Star Wars OC”, Volume 3! Have you ever wanted to make a character in the Star Wars universe, but you can’t decide which of the fifty billion alien races to use for them? Well, here’s this handy flowchart to help make that decision just a little easier!

For this version, I decided I wanted to suffer as I made it, so I went ahead and bumped up the species count from 150 to 250, which is somehow still only scratching the surface of the species out there. Even so, I’m happy to say I’ve at least covered most of the major species, while still sprinkling in some more obscure ones—everything from Twi’leks and Zabraks to Hysalrians and Drabatans, this flowchart has it all!

Beyond that (as well as some minor formatting changes), everything’s just as it was before! You can pick out your species either by following the flowchart or by picking randomly with a six-sided die or a random number generator—figured the latter would be cool for all the RPG players out there! Once you find one you like, feel free to check out the links below for lists of resources and info on each species (alphabetized, of course, for your convenience). These resources can include their Wookieepedia page, videos of the species in-action, informational videos, and even name generators! Do be warned, though, that the amount of info on the species vary, as some are just older and more well known/established than others. I hope what I found helps anyway, though!

But yeah, in any case, I really hope this helps some people out! In fact, if you do end up using this, please consider tagging whatever you make with #starwarsocflowchart—you don’t have to, of course, but I’d just love to see what people come up with!

With that said, merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone reading this, and thank you all for supporting my work on here enough to inspire me to do this! Y’all are the best, and I can’t wait to see all that you make with this!

Everything You (N)ever Wanted to Know about Coruscant.

muldertorture:

A Semi-Comprehensive Guide to the Galatic Center, circa the Fall of the Republic Era for Inter-galactic Tourists and Fic Writers Alike.

(For those who don’t have the patience or feel too overwhelmed to browse Wookiepedia, this is for you!) Originally created as a resource for @the-far-bright-center

Welcome to Coruscant! Originally called Notron, also known as Imperial
Center or the Queen of the Core, was a planet located in the Galactic
Core.  Over the centuries, Coruscant had
developed into an ecumenopolis, (a type of planet, or in some cases a moon,
whose entire surface was covered with a single worldwide city) with a total of
5,127 levels of city built up from the crust by the time of the Clone Wars. The
actual planet-wide metropolis of Coruscant was called Galactic City. Under the
Galactic Republic, the names Republic City or the City of Spires were also used
to reference the city. However, in practice, Galactic City and its other names
were sometimes applied to the Senate District, the central government center
and de facto capital of Coruscant.

Do you know of any planets/species that have cultures/architecture with a solarpunk aesthetic? Or, if there are none, do you know of any species whose culture could feasibly work with that?

Sorry this took so long, I was at the midnight showing of The Last Jedi! As for your question, I’m a little bit stuck. Probably the closest thing I can think of that fits the aesthetic, visually and explicitly, would be Mandalore. And I say closest because the scenery we’ve seen of the domed cities doesn’t actually have a whole lot of plants.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for in terms of a culture that could work with your ideas, but I would look into the Chandrilans. Chandrila is primarily an agriworld, and the people who live there are educated very early in how to coexist with nature and maintain a balanced ecosystem. They do also have advanced architecture and tend towards smooth, elegant buildings, which helps it fit better with the aesthetic, but we don’t see a whole lot of the landscape or cities so I couldn’t tell you for sure.

I hope that helps a bit with what you’re looking for, and if anyone else has suggestions feel free to add!
