Are there still locations dedicated to medical facilities for the NR or a new faction like the Resistance? I’m watching CW and they are evacuating patients so I’m wondering if they think they are too risky

As far as we know, it appears that the New Republic, and by extension the Resistance, did not have medical stations like the GAR did, but they certainly did have dedicated medical facilities. A military force can’t function without them. Since the Resistance works out of ships and small planetary bases, that is where their facilities are located. They owned at least one modified Nebulon-C escort frigate, which they used as a medical frigate. The NR had more options, as a legitimate government, and though we don’t know of any it is possible that they could have had medical stations at their disposal. If they abandoned the idea, it would probably not be because of any risk associated with it (since any medical facility or vessel is going to be vulnerable to attack), but perhaps because they no longer needed them after the demilitarization and such a long stretch of peacetime.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for the post about TIEs/x-Wings! Did they ever produce a TIE with shields and hyperspace capabilities like they had the prototype for in Rebels?

In canon, the TIE Advanced x1 and v1 were produced sometime before 4 BBY (the v1 was unveiled on Empire Day in 4 BBY) and were equipped with both a hyperdrive and deflector shields. Neither saw widespread use (seemingly limited to the Inquisitors and the elite of the Empire) because they were more expensive than the standard TIE, and because the Empire had no need to protect their pilots. By the time of the First Order, TIEs came standard with shields, and the only variant used by the FO that didn’t have a hyperdrive was the TIE/fo space superiority fighter. In Legends, the TIE Advanced was also a model that had shielding. By the time of the Imperial Remnant, high-ranking officers like Thrawn began to equip their limited forces with shields, as the ships and pilots became more valuable and harder to replace.

Hope that helps!

I’m trying to think of a squadron name but everything I think of sounds cheesy! Any ideas?

I hate coming up with names for stuff, so I generally break it down further before I decide on a final name. I find it easier if I’ve already decided on a general type of name I want, and I like to go off of established naming conventions, of which there are a lot. Squadron names often fall into one of these categories:

Colours. This is a very popular one (Red Squadron, Blue Squadron, Cobalt Squadron, Gold Squadron, etc.) but you may find it difficult to come up with a colour that hasn’t been used;

Alphabetic or numerical designations (Aurek Flight, Epsilon Squadron, 133rd Imperial Fighter Group);

Weaponry (Dagger Squadron, Cutlass Squadron, Vibroaxe Squadron);

Intimidating animals (Panther Flight, Gundark Squadron, Viper Squadron);

Space or weather phenomena (Corona Squadron, Tempest Squadron, Twin Suns Squadron);

And assorted nouns, often chosen specifically to reflect the function, reputation, or symbolism surrounding the group (Pheonix Squadron, Rogue Squadron, Nightmare Squadron, Aggressor Wing).

Once I pick a category I sometimes search up a generator, or if I already know what I want to get across with the name I’ll search through a thesaurus until I find the right word. Of course not every name has to be one of these things, but narrowing it down helps for me. Also, if your squadron is going to play a major role in your story, I would definitely come up with some background for it and its members before picking a name. Lots of squadrons’ names have some sort of connection to their origin, such as a reference to the founder’s homeworld or the first battle it flew in. It’s not uncommon for squadrons to be rearranged, renamed, or combined with other groups over time, so you may want to think about the progression of events that led it to where it is now.

I hope that’s helpful!

Can you explain ion beams taking out the electricity on ships ?

Ion cannons fire ionized particles or plasma, which interfere with a ship’s electronic systems when discharged. The blast is meant to short out the circuitry, often causing permanent damage due to the heat, in order to disable the ship.  (This is also why ion beams are capable of taking out shields, by overloading the shield generator.) In some cases, especially with a large crew available, the damage can be repaired and the ship can start flying again relatively quickly.

Is there a directory of planets where kyber crystals were found? Also are there limited colors?

This depends heavily on whether you’re going with canon or Legends or a mixture of the two, so I’ll do them separately.

In canon, we only see kyber crystals used as lightsaber crystals (while in Legends there are many different crystals that can be used). Notably, they could be found on Ilum, Mygeeto, Jedha, Lothal, and Christophsis. The known colours are black, blue, green, purple, red, white, and yellow, often in subtly varying shades.

In Legends, it can be very difficult to determine whether a planet has kyber crystals or another variety of lightsaber crystal, but I expect it wouldn’t make much of a difference. These are the known types of crystals, and these are the known colours. I don’t know of a compiled list of planets (maybe someone else does?) but clicking on any type you’re interested in will show you where it can be found.

Is there any specific way for a non-Force user to fight someone with the Force? (Without use of a ysalamiri.) Would it be possible to sort of “disarm” a Force-user with use of pressure points of something similar? Thank you!

I’m afraid I can’t remember any instance of something like this, and I can’t find a mention of it in my reference books (note that I’m not big into the really far back stuff, so if there’s something there I may have missed it). There are plenty of ways to prevent a Force-user from using or even accessing the Force, but they all require some degree of skill in the Force to perform. Generally, when we see a non-Force-user fight a Force-user, they rely on gadgets and traps to get the upper hand, and they are often still beaten.

If anyone knows of an example of this sort of thing that I’ve missed, please feel free to add!

Might I direct you all to one of my favorite Quora posts ever:

How could a Mandalorian kill a Jedi straight-up, no questions asked?

And my other most fave Quora post:

In Star Wars, what weapons and strategies could a non-force user employ to effectively kill Jedi in a one on one fight? Are there any non-force users in Star Wars universe who have defeated many Jedi, and are considered dangerous by them?

Reblogging for this wonderful addition

What do you do for inspiration ?

Honestly, I have no idea most of the time. Most of my ideas just pop into my mind, sometimes tangentially based on something I was doing or reading or listening to at the time. Often I find a gap in the canon where I could conceivably fit something interesting and just work from there (19-5 BBY is the setting of a lot of my ideas, for example). I don’t really go for common tropes, but I know that plenty of people can pick a trope they find intriguing and figure out a story around that premise. I also find that reading outside your normal genre can be a huge source of inspiration; as you may have guessed, I both read and write a lot of sci-fi, so when I get stuck in a bit of a hole I like to go for something fantasy or non-fiction.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend that you write down every idea you have, however simple or small. Most of mine are very vague and need a whole lot of development before I could even think about going through with them, and I always feel silly writing them down, but it does help. When it comes to actually developing the story, it helps me to map out exactly where I want certain things to go (others I will leave open) and I find that seeing it laid out like that often gives me inspiration for the next bits. But, of course, everyone works in their own way.

Hope that helps!

I don’t understand how Y-Wings were aerodynamic enough to evade TIEs?

I expect you mean maneuverable? You’re right, that is an issue for Y-wings. They aren’t very maneuverable at all and accelerate much slower than TIEs. When in ship-to-ship combat this can be a big disadvantage, especially given the numbers that TIEs typically attack in, but because of their large payload of torpedoes and bombs they are often used as bombers instead, in which case they would usually be provided with a faster, more agile escort to keep the TIEs off. If a Y-wing evades a TIE in ship-to-ship combat, it would be due pretty much solely to the skill levels of the respective pilots.
