I can’t find anything in canon (but I haven’t read Catalyst) about actual dates of when the Empire began removing kyber crystals from Jedha. Does 10bby (or earlier) seem within the realm of possible? Or is it more likely that it’s a relatively recent activity?

I haven’t read Catalyst either, just a warning, but I know that it spans from 22-17 BBY, and that during that time kyber crystals had already been acquired from some other place. Galen Erso’s research was largely completed by the end, I believe, so once the events of the book were over I think it’s possible that the Empire could have started mining as early as that same year. On the other hand, the prologue of Rogue One is set in 13 BBY and the rest in 0 BBY, so that might be just too early for the mining to be finished when it was. It seems to me that anything later than 17 BBY and earlier than ~10 BBY could be plausible, and that something close to 13 BBY (when Galen was recaptured) could be more probable. That’s my opinion, though, and it’s really up to you.

Anyone who has read Catalyst and could provide some information on this, please share!

Would musical instruments have the same names in SW as in our world? I’m assuming that musical groups (woodwind, brass, percussion) stay the same, but what about specific instruments like french horn? Would the name change due to SW not having France? Is their a similar instrument in canon?

The groups of musical instruments do have the same names, however there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of brass instruments. Some instruments have exactly the same name in-universe as out, but French horn isn’t one of them. The closest thing in appearance to a French horn I could find was a hypolliope horn cluster, which looks like this. Not all that similar, but most other horns were either trumpet-ish or bassoon-ish. I wouldn’t guess it would have a similar sound, either, so you could also go with something like the Faln horn (presumed to have a “smooth” sound) or the woot horn (has a bass tone). There really isn’t anything exactly like it, possibly because the French horn is kind of a ridiculous instrument in the first place!

Hope one of those works!

Is there a Star Wars equivalent of Valentine’s Day? I’ve seen fics mentioning ‘sweetheart’s day’ or ‘lover’s day’, but I’m unsure if these are just fan creations. Thank you :)

There is such a thing as the Festival of Love, but it’s held by the Ewoks and is only loosely based on Valentine’s Day. It’s more about love between clan members, often in a platonic/bandmates kinda way. I couldn’t find evidence of “sweetheart’s day” or “lover’s day” being canon, so I would guess they’re made up; if anyone else has heard of them, please correct me. No reason why you couldn’t use one, though!

Sorry that wasn’t quite what you wanted!

This blog is amazing!!! Do you think this information and having seen the movies ( not the TV show or read any of the novels) I could pass off as an accurately informed writer in the SW world?

Thank you so much! And yes, I think you don’t need to meet any sort of requirement as to the amount of canon you’ve watched or read in order to write something accurate and informed. Don’t feel that you have to know everything about the universe in order to have fun writing about it (that’s what I’m here for)! The movies have plenty of material to work off of, and if you need anything else feel free to send me an ask.

Vocab List is Up!

For those who don’t know, I’ve been working on a list of star wars vocabulary to be used as reference. It’s finally ready to go, and you can find it here.

It’s also linked in my navigation tab, and in my bio (for those on mobile). Use it whenever you want, and don’t be afraid to suggest that something be added. Thanks to everyone who has already either suggested stuff or sent in asks about terminology! I hope you all find this useful.

Good luck to everybody with their writing!

Is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder actually called ‘Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder’ in star wars? Or is there a different name for it?

Mental illnesses are very rarely mentioned by name in Star Wars. The only instances I’ve seen (which have all been in Legends), the illness was called by the same name it is in our universe. Psychosis, OCD and Multiple Personality Disorder (an outdated and inaccurate term) are all mentioned. I couldn’t be sure, but it seems very likely that if PTSD was mentioned, it would just be called PTSD.

I know that portable electronic music players exist in star wars, but I can’t find anything that gives them a name besides just ‘music players’. Do you happen to know what they’re called?

The only thing I know of that is intended solely for playing music is just called a music player. However, it’s a whole lot more common to use various holographic devices to play music on, because “music players” are a bit antiquated. You might use a holopad, holoprojector or holo-player, especially if you have a recording of the artist or a dancer to go along with the music. They all mean basically the same thing, in this case. A plain old datapad could also play a recording, as most came with headphone ports and the ability to play sound, and those are extremely common.

I hope one of those works!

I’ve read on Wookieepedia that Colonel Veers was temporarily imprisoned on Zaloriis (in Legends). That would earn him the Prisoner of War Medal, right?

He was captured on Zaloriis, but I can’t find any evidence of a Prisoner of War Medal or equivalent within the Empire. Most medals awarded by the Empire in Legends were for TIE pilots. Are you just planning on using the real-life medal in your fic? There’s no problem with that, and if that’s the case then I would guess that yes, his capture would earn him the medal.
