What can you tell me about a Jedi Guard’s keys? Wookiepedia is silent on the topic. Are they symbolic? Functional? It’s a uniform so I’m assuming that it’s probably both. Thanks!

I’m pretty much stumped on this one, I’m afraid. I can’t find any information on the Temple Guards’ keys. I would also assume that they have a practical function as well as a symbolic one, as there were certainly places within the Temple that would require a lock. However, it is also unusual to see a physical lock-and-key system used in Star Wars, so it is possible that the keys were not the only required authentication for whatever they were meant to access, or that they were just symbolic.

Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

Hey guys, I feel I should apologize. You’ve all been waiting for the second part of that medical post very patiently, and I should mention that I’m also working on a post that deals with the structure of the Republic Military. The reason for the delay is that I’ve accidentally found myself with six IB courses this semester when I should have four, and the workload has been intense! So thank you guys for waiting, and I will get back to working on the posts as soon as things ease up a bit!

Fic Help

I need 2 ships for a story I’m writing. They would be used by Jedi Order, Clone Wars Era. They need to be able to carry minimum 4 and 12 people, complete with sleeping quarters, but not so big as to need a dedicated crew. I’m thinking along the lines of A Ghost or Millennium Falcon. It could be a freighter, I suppose, but it’s being used in a people moving capacity not hauling stuff. One needs to have a shuttle or an escape pod. The other is being used in military operations. Ideas? Thanks!

Tagging: @writebetterstarwars or anyone who has thoughts

For the first one, I would suggest the Consular-class cruiser. It can carry up to 16 passengers, can function with a crew of two, and has two escape pods. It is definitely bigger than the Falcon or the Ghost (at 115 meters long), but you won’t find something much smaller that can carry so many passengers. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan used it in TPM to travel to the Trade Federation battleship over Naboo; it was used all through the Clone Wars as part of the Republic Navy, when some were modified with turbolasers and concussion missiles, but it was primarily a diplomatic transport.

If you really need something smaller, you could go with the Zeta-class long-range shuttle. At 35m long it is about the same size as the Ghost and the Falcon, requires two crewmembers and can carry 10 passengers. I don’t know if it includes sleeping quarters for everyone (most likely not, at that size) or even at all, but it is designed specifically to transport people quickly over long distances.

For the one doing military operations, I’m actually going to suggest the Consular-class cruiser again, the Charger c70 retrofit version. It’s a bit bigger than the unmodified version, is equipped with weapons as mentioned above, can carry up to 30 people (presumably less if everyone wanted a living space), and need 9 crewmembers (I assume you could get by with two, like the unmodified version, if the weapons went unstaffed).

These probably seem a bit big for your purposes. The issue is that the Jedi Order doesn’t often use dedicated transports, they either get rides on civilian vessels or use a Republic Navy ship, so they don’t really have ships reminiscent of the Falcon or the Ghost. Basically, if you want a ship used specifically by the Jedi during the Clone Wars, one that has sleeping quarters, you will need a couple people to act as crewmembers and supervise the controls.

Hope that helps! If you need other suggestions I’m happy to give some more.

hey, are you looking for star wars-related words? like, ‘what the hell do they make buildings out of, was it durasteel or duracrete’ words? do you have questions like ‘what types of organic woven fibers exist in the star wars universe’? here’s an RPG campaign page that includes detailed dictionaries for materials and gear amongst other things! i still haven’t figured out what uneti wood is but oh well!

Thanks @pomrania for showing me this post!

Are there any examples of more non-Humans like Thrawn becoming officers in the Republic/Imperial navy?

In the Navy, specifically, I only know of one: S’ran Droot, a Chagrian who was a chief petty officer prior to the Battle of Yavin. Within the rest of the military there were more, such as the Gektl major Stafuv Rahz, and the Kaleesh general Bentilais san Sk’ar. Most aliens in the Empire were given special but low-ranking positions by the Emperor himself, as they generally would have difficulty enlisting in the standard ways. Notably, they were often brought into the ranks of the Empire because of Force-sensitivity, skill in the sciences, or, as with Stafuv Rahz, they were willing to give up their planet and its resources in return for a ranking position.

Hope that helps!

Any tips on how to draw Nautlons?

thefoodwiththedood:

deer-head-xiris:

I’ll see what I can offer! Most of my personal stylization for Nautolans comes from The Clone Wars style for them, so I’ll mainly stick with that for most visual stuff. Here’s some tips on designing your handsome squids

Before I draw any OC for a SW species, I like to read up on their biology on their wikis- http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nautolan/Legends

Nautolans have large dark eyes, often black or dark maroon. They have 14 head-tresses (don’t feel pressured to draw all of them- they can be hidden behind them) that can be tied together or displayed in other fashions, and gills on the sides of their head:

Their skin has been seen to be shades of Green, Brown, Blue, Purple, Yellow, and Red (though with colorful inhuman species like this I see no harm in adding extra colors if there’s no specified reason not to).

Nautolans have also been shown to have varied skin patterns:

There’s near endless potential to mess around with here. You can look up other sea creatures for design inspiration! For my character Strizao, I based her appearance off of this Larger Pacific Striped Octopus

My Akua’s patterns weren’t inspired by a sea creature, they were just more natural-looking formations based on her old Gem self

And if your Nautolan doesn’t have wild colors or patterns, they can also get cool looking tattoos if desired!

Nautolan’s hands are fairly large and their fingers are pointed with no nails

and though it’s not canon, Kit Fisto was shown to have webbed hands in the 2003 clone wars, so feel free to mess around with that too!

Despite not having webbed fingers in canon, they do have spindly webbed feet!

Also another thing to note- Nautolans were originally not meant to have eyelids, but in The Clone Wars they were animated to blink so that bit would also be up to you to decide if you want or not!

That should be all the basics of Nautolan appearance. You can google image search “Nautolan” for more inspiration if you’d like.

Hope this helped, have fun!
